The Department of Communication Disorders offers the following degree programs which are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA):

In its most recent rankings published in 2004, U.S. News and World Report Magazine ranked Auburn's Audiology (44th) and Speech Pathology (50th) programs within the Top 50 programs nationally. Audiology and Speech Pathology training programs were two of the four AU programs to be ranked in the Top 50 in their respective fields in the United States.

The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at the University of South Alabama offers the Doctor of Philosophy in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Doctor of Audiology, Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, and Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences degree programs. The Department is accredited in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology by the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Additionally, the department operates an active clinic, the USA Speech and Hearing Center, that serves as a referral site for the gulf coast and southern Alabama regions.

The Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Alabama offers a professional undergraduate program and graduate-level program in speech-language pathology accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation. For students with an undergraduate background, requirements for the graduate program can be completed in five semesters. Students completing the master's degree will also have to meet the academic and practicum requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and for a license in the state of Alabama.

The Department of Communication Science and Disorders at the University of Montevallo has one of the oldest and largest programs in speech language pathology in Alabama. The first Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology was granted by Montevallo in 1957 and first master's degree in 1963. Clinical services were initially offered in 1936 and Montevallo has continued to provide students with outstanding practicum experiences. The undergraduate and graduate programs of study in Speech-Language Pathology are accredited by the Council of Academic Affairs of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The comprehensive, two year graduate program provides professional preparation enabling individuals to practice speech-language pathology in medical, educational, early intervention, and long-term care settings. The Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program was established in 1974. The first Bachelor's degree in deaf education was granted by Montevallo in 1975. Montevallo is the only university in the state of Alabama to offer a degree in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Students completing a Bachelor's degree in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are eligible for a Class B Special Education Certificate with endorsement in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
